1. Self Cleaning

Self cleaning is a feature of storage tank water heaters that helps prolong the life of your tank and the heater.

2. Energy Star

If you purchase a water heater that is Energy Star rated, you know you've purchased a heater that is one of the most efficient available. What's the advantage to you? More hot water for less energy expended. Lower heating bills. Environmentally friendly.

3. Improved Tank Insulation

Lots of heat can be lost in a poorly insulated water heater. Lost heat means your hot water gets cold, and you have to buy more gas or electricity to re-heat the water. Look for water heaters that have improved tank insulation. A few cents an hour can add up over the years.

4. Flammable Vapor Ignition Resistance

Water heaters are usually located in basements or garages, where gas or chemical fumes can occasionally accumulate. Gas water heaters have pilot lights that can potentially ignite fumes. Flammable Vapor Ignition Resistance systems, established by the American National Standards Institute, are a safety system designed to prevent pilot lights from igniting fumes.

5. Piezo Igniter

Piezo Igniters are electronic ignition systems. If your pilot light is extinguished, you can relight your pilot light by pressing the button on your Piezo Igniter, rather than having to fumble with matches.
