A wood-burning fire provides natural heat while looking and smelling great. Your skill and some ongoing attention are required to build and maintain a fire. You can build a blazing or glowing fire. If you do not enjoy keeping a wood fire burning, consider buying a gas fireplace.
NOTE: Local air quality and global warming have caused several regions around the country to create regulations regarding emissions from wood-burning appliances. Please check with your local code before purchasing a wood burning fireplace.
Electric Fireplace
Electric fireplaces are light projections that simulate a burning fire, combined with an adjustable electrical heater to simulate the warmth of a fire. Newer, more expensive models are more convincing, using 3-D reflection technology and high definition recordings projected over life-size log sets. If your room is already warm, you can operate an electric fireplace with the heat turn off.
Gas Fireplace
A gas fireplace generates a gas-fueled fire that looks like a wood-burning fire. The flames are more even and consistent. Permanent ceramic logs sit on a fireplace grate and the gas fire burns around them. Gas fireplaces are available to operate with propane or natural gas. Check local service for availability of these gas products.
